What image formats does ImgForge support?
ImgForge supports all major image formats including JPG (JPEG), PNG, WebP, HEIC (HEIF), AVIF, SVG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, and PDF. You can convert between any supported input and output format combination.
Is ImgForge really free to use?
Yes, ImgForge is completely free with no hidden fees, premium tiers, or watermarks. You can convert as many images as you need for both personal and commercial use.
What is the maximum file size I can upload?
You can upload files up to 50 MB in size. For most image formats, this is more than enough for even high-resolution photographs and graphics.
Are my uploaded files stored on your servers?
No. Your files are processed in memory and deleted immediately after you download the converted file. We do not store, log, or analyze any uploaded content. Your privacy is our priority.
Do I need to create an account to use ImgForge?
No account or registration is required. Simply visit the site, upload your file, choose the output format, and download your converted image. No signup, no email required.
How does ImgForge convert images so fast?
ImgForge uses libvips for standard image processing and ImageMagick for specialized formats like SVG and PDF. Both are industry-leading, server-side tools optimized for speed and quality.
Can I convert HEIC photos from my iPhone?
Absolutely. HEIC is the default photo format on modern iPhones and iPads. ImgForge can convert HEIC files to JPG, PNG, WebP, or any other supported format instantly.
What is the difference between lossy and lossless compression?
Lossy compression (used by JPG, WebP, AVIF) reduces file size by discarding some image data that is less noticeable to the human eye. Lossless compression (used by PNG) reduces file size without any data loss, preserving every pixel exactly.
Which format should I use for my website?
For photographs, use WebP or AVIF for the best compression with excellent quality. For graphics with transparency, use WebP or PNG. For icons and logos, SVG is ideal because it scales perfectly to any size.
Does converting images reduce their quality?
It depends on the format and settings. Converting between lossless formats (like PNG to PNG) preserves all quality. Converting to lossy formats (like PNG to JPG) may reduce quality slightly, but ImgForge uses optimized quality settings to minimize any visible difference.
Can I convert multiple files at once?
Currently, ImgForge processes one file at a time to ensure the best quality and fastest conversion speed. You can convert files back-to-back quickly without any waiting time between conversions.
What happens to transparent backgrounds when converting PNG to JPG?
JPG does not support transparency. When you convert a PNG with a transparent background to JPG, the transparent areas will be filled with a white background. If you need to keep transparency, consider converting to WebP or keeping the PNG format.
Is ImgForge safe to use for sensitive images?
Yes. All file transfers are encrypted via HTTPS. Your files are processed on the server and deleted immediately after download. We never share, store, or analyze your images. Third-party services like Google Analytics and AdSense are used for site improvement and to keep the service free, but they have no access to your uploaded files.
Does ImgForge strip EXIF data from my photos?
The handling of EXIF metadata depends on the output format. Some formats like WebP and PNG do not carry EXIF data, effectively stripping it during conversion. JPG conversions may preserve some metadata. If privacy is a concern, converting to WebP or PNG is a good way to remove location and camera data.
What browsers and devices are supported?
ImgForge works on all modern web browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge on both desktop and mobile devices. No plugins or extensions are required — just a web browser and an internet connection.
